Abstract: In this paper we describe the behavior of a sonic composite consisted from an array of acoustic scatterers embedded in an epoxy matrix. The acoustic scatterers are made from piezoceramic hollow spheres consisted from functionally graded materialsthe Reddy and the cosine graded hollow spheres. The strong sound attenuation at selective frequency bands is due to interference of multiply reflected waves. In order to avoid the unphysical reflections, the implementation of absorbing boundary conditions is necessary. Two major computational problems remain open or not completely solved, namely (i) the modeling of the absorbing boundary and (ii) how the absorbing boundary influence the solution’s stability? The paper contributes towards answering the above questions. .
