Abstract: The paper presents a method for the cinematic analysis of the industrial robots active mechanisms. It can be applied no matter what the structure of the industrial robot is. This method uses the homogeneous matrices and their derivatives with time and can establish in a recursive way the speed distributions corresponding to the component links. Also, the influence of the movement at the active joints level on the speed distributions for different parts of the robot mechanism can be settled. Finally, the method is applied for a complex active mechanism of a robot with six degrees of freedom
