Abstract: The topology optimization started to be implemented in aerospace engineering in the last years. Composites optimization is not a standard procedure in aerospace, being only in current research. Article presents a case study of weight saving using topology optimization for a helicopter seat shell. The optimization process results were tested with static analysis in order to have an accurate assessment. Even weight saving were obtained, a decision for design changing has to consider also manufacturing limitations and costs. Design recommendations with comments and conclusions are given.
