| Abstract: | In 2006 Romania adopted the SR EN 1997-1:2004 Standard for
Geotechnical Design. The Standard includes 12 sections. Section 9 contains
requirements regarding retaining systems. This paper is an overview of calculation
principles for the design of retaining walls. In accordance with the
recommendations of SR EN 1997-1:2004 and the National Annex, the design of
retaining structures is made with Design Approach 1, in both combinations. The
paper also includes an overall procedure for the design and a comparison for
reinforced concrete retaining walls founded in different earth characteristics. |
