Abstract: In our paper we establish the geometric relations that have to hold true due to the spherical contact between different geometric elements of a valve actuation mechanism. Using these relations one may determine the rota-tion angle of the lever as function of the rest of the parameters, and the maxi-mum rotation angle as function of the contact position between the lever and the valve. Numerical applications and different diagrams of variation highlight the theory.
