Abstract: The profile of minimum drag depends on the particular auxiliary structural condition that is imposed on the airfoil geometry [1]. By using a third degree approximation [4], with respect to the flow deviation, some analytical formulas for the optimal maximum thickness position were obtained for symmetrical airfoils at zero lift in inviscid flow. A structural (area or volume) criterion was also used pointing out a better behaviour of continuous curvature [2] airfoil as compared with the rhomboidal one.
